Alex Job Racing Finishes Second and Sixth in GT2 at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas fought all day from their pole position to finish their number 23/Hyatt/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in second today in GT2 at the Generac 500 American Le Mans Series race at Road America. The companion car of Ian Baas and Darren Law finished the day in sixth place.

Bernhard started from the GT2 pole position and chose the wrong line into turn one. By the time he arrived at turn two he was in sixth place. On lap 10 an engine failure in a P2 completely oiled the windshield of the 23 car. Bernhard had to soldier on with limited visibility. From that point the young German had to fight back and was able to get the car back up to third position by lap 19 when he turned it over to co-driver Romain Dumas. Dumas began to run fast times and finally took the lead on lap 51. Team strategy and steady driving gave the Frenchman a nearly 50 second lead. Then on lap 64 with only 15 minutes remaining a caution flag ruined the day for the Job team. The car only needed 10-seconds of fuel to complete the race which could have easily been completed under green without giving up the lead.

Teammates Ian Baas and Darren Law in the number 24/Hyatt/Alex Job Racing/ProVest/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, raced to a sixth place finish. The P2 engine failure also soiled the windshield of Baas. Early traffic and hectic restarts were the order of the day. Baas handed the 24 car over to Darren Law who motored to fourth position. A late race pit stop and last lap pass relegated the car to sixth position on the day.

Timo Bernhard, #23 Alex Job Racing/Hyatt/Bell Microproducts/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, "The start was terrible. I went to the inside and got behind a prototype who nearly stopped on the track. The next thing I knew I was in sixth position and the Lizard car had quite a lead. The oil from the P2 car was trouble. The oil completely covered my windshield. It was tough to see and I didn't want to push to hard and make a mistake. The late race yellow ruined it for us. We are still in the points lead, but it remains close with Petersen."

Romain Dumas, #23 Alex Job Racing/Hyatt/Bell Microproducts/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "The yellow killed us today. We had a big lead, almost 50-seconds at that point. We were talking about the splash of fuel, but didn't get it done in time. We chose to take the new tires with the gas, which allowed me to get back up to second. I needed about another kilometer to get around Long, today Road America was just not long enough."

Darren Law, #24 Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/ProVest/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "The car was good. The setup was consistent, but just a little off. We are having trouble with the front grip of the car and getting it turned in. The competition in the class is so close, that just having the car a little off is worth a lot of time on the track. Ian did a good job and completed a lot of laps today. He gets better with every session."

Ian Baas, #24 Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/ProVest/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "The oil on the track early on made for some drama. The car started to go off during the last laps of the race and the brakes seemed to fade a little. I couldn't hold off the Panoz for position. It is good to complete the race and the team is working hard on the car. Darren and I are running well together and I am really looking forward to Mosport in two weeks."

Alex Job, team owner: "The yellow got us at the end, it cost us the race. We could have gotten the splash completed under green and returned to the track still in the lead. Timo and Romain drove hard and smart. It is tough to lose late in the race with a 50-second lead. The Petersen car ran a good race and was in position to win at the end. Ian lost fifth place on the last lap, so we were a place short on each car today."

Round eight of the American Le Mans Series will be run at Mosport International Raceway on September 4 th .
